The Vivo V9 has a notch and packs AI assisted cameras. It looks like a promising device for budget-sensitive markets. However, before share the Vivo v9 stock ringtones with you, let’s check out the specifications of this phone.
Specifications
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo debuted the V9 mid-range smartphone for India back in March of 2018. The Vivo V9 features a 6.3in Full HD+ tall 19:9 notched IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080px. The Vivo V9 is powered by a mid-range Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU along with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage.ย Thankfully, a MicroSD card slot that can handle cards of up toย 256GB is present in the V9 for expandable storage. A fingerprint scanner is onboard in the Vivo V9 and also the front camera powered AI Face Access face unlock is also available as biometric authentication options. The AI Face Access is a step above the Android face unlock feature as in it equipped with Attention Sensing which detects if the user is looking at the phone or not, similar to what we’ve seen on the iPhone X.
Camera
Photography is handled by a dual camera setup at the rear featuring a 16MP (f/2.0) (PDAF) + 5MP (depth sensor) sensor combination. The rear camera is assisted by a single LED flash. Up front, the Vivo V9 features an impressive 24MP selfie camera with its lens again having an aperture of f/2.0. Both the rear and front-facing camera are assisted by AI for better portrait shots. AI Face Beauty mode can help the camera understand whether the subject is male or female, age, skin tone and surrounding light and adjust accordingly for better portrait photos. The camera at the rear and front can records videos at a resolutionย of up to 4K @ 30fps and 1080p @ 30fps respectively.
Battery, connectivity and Android version
A decent enough 3260 mAh battery is onboard the Vivo V9 to keep the lights on. Unfortunately, the device comesย equipped with the obsolete and outdated MicroUSB port to help it slowly take its time to fill up with juice and get going. Coming to the connectivity side of the Vivo V9, it has you covered with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 LE with A2DP, GPS and more. Thankfully enough, the Vivo has retained the good old headphone jack that we all love on the V9. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-basedย Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 custom UI out of the box.
Pricing, color options, and availability
The Vivo V9 is available on Flipkart, Amazon and offline retail channels across India. On Flipkart, at the time of writing this article, the Vivo V9 was priced at Rs. 20,990 (after Rs. 3000 discount for a limited time).ย The V9 is available in Gold, Pearl Black (Gold accenting on the camera module and fingerprint scanner), and Sapphire Blue paint jobs.
Vivo also launched the V9 6GB, a new variant featuring 6GB of RAM, a new chipset, and an updated camera setup.
Back in June, Vivo introduced the V9 6GB in Indonesia for around $300 that employs 6GB of RAM along with a new SoC which is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. The front camera and rear dual camera setup have been upgraded as well: 13MP + 2MP sensor combination and a new 12MP Dual Pixel sensor respectively.
Design:
Why are most of the OEMs impersonating the Apple iPhone X? Its simple, it provides consumers with a choice of carrying around a phone that imitates the most popular phone in the market made by the most valuable brand. Hence, boosting sales for Vivo.
Design wise, at first glace itself, the Vivo V9 identical to the iPhone X. Speaking of which, there is no denying the fact that Vivo was only and only inspired by the โFruitPhone Xโ for that infamous notched display and also the vertical rear camera module design.
