If you’re unaware, Tecno is a Chinese mobile manufacturer which focuses its operations mostly in Africa and South Asia. The device is currently exclusive to e-commerce platform Jumia but will be available offline later on. The name CM is apparently an acronym to see more. This highlights the device’s main selling point which is the 5.7″ HD display that comes in the modern 18:9 aspect ratio. It is understandable if you’ve never heard of the company and don’t care about the phone. But you may be interested in the stock wallpapers that the device ships with.

For those living in Africa, the device features a MediaTek MT6737, 16GB of internal storage with 2GB of RAM. It comes with Android 7.0 out of the box and supports 4G VoLTE. It’s hard to comment about the device with little to no knowledge about the African market but the spec sheet does not speak very highly about the device considering the pricing. It seems dangerously close to the mid-range segment while the specs are as bare minimum as needed to run Android Nougat. The 18:9 display does make the device feel smaller than it would have with a 5.7″ display.

At 5.7 inches though, the display resolution of 720×1440 seems a little too little. It comes down to a meager 282 pixels per inch. That’s probably all that the included silicon from MediaTek could drive without causing performance issues. Below are the full specs for the device. The 2 gigs of RAM will also be a reason to worry in 2018 if you’re a multitasker and like to switch between apps often. The front and rear of the device both house a 13-megapixel sensor which sounds enough on paper.

We know hardware specifications don’t really mean much unless the software is well optimized. But the hardware on the Tecno Camon CM does not inspire much confidence. Coupled with the fact that the device is shipping with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box when Android 9.0 is out, does not speak highly of Tecno’s focus on software either. All the hardware on the device is powered by a 3000mA Lithium Polymer battery which does support fast charging. It’s nice to see the company hasn’t skimped on any of the common smartphone sensors.
