Owners of Sony tablets have encountered an unfortunate dilemma this year with the update to the Nougat version of Google’s Android operating system. Specifically, the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z4 and Zperia X3 Plus Sony tablets have been scheduled for a software rollout in the beginning out of the year,
Problems started when the rollout got paused so that it might be continued another time. There were certain problems with audio playback quality of devices using the firmware. Mind you, this was the case for devices that were using third party apps, so the entirety of what was wrong is still a mystery for frustrated consumers that were very close to getting Android Nougat.
Whatever it was, it looks like the good folks over at Sony managed to find and eradicate the problem. As a result, users are now once again receiving the firmware and happy to finally be part of the Android Nougat ready community. The three aforementioned tablets will now finally be Nougat ready and their users will be able to access all the cool features that come with the latest iteration of Google’s OS.
If you own the Sony Xperia Z5, Z4 or Z3 Plus tablet, you should expect the new update to arrive any moment. If you are eager to get into the Nougat goodness, you can check for the update yourself by accessing your device’s Settings menu. From there, there is a section that lets you “Check for updates”. One used, the phone will detect if there are any updates available for your tablet.
The Android Nougat update is coming in the form of an over-the-air (or OTA) update, so make sure that you are using a WiFi connection if possible. The jump from Marshmallow to Nougat is pretty consistent so doing it over network data could dig quite a whole in your data plan. Also, make sure your device is well charged so it doesn’t turn off in the middle of the update process. That could lead to some unnecessary complications.
