After numerous rumors, leaks, and speculations, Xiaomi has finally launched the next devices in its Redmi Note lineup. The Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro are sure to grab headlines with a 48-megapixel camera at such a cheap price. Of course, the megapixel count doesn’t guarantee anything but it is still remarkable and we can at least expect it to be quite better than the previous Redmi Note camera. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Design

The first Redmi Note to be launched was the Redmi Note 7. Unlike the previous update from the Redmi Note 5 to the Redmi Note 6, this is a major upgrade. Of course, the headlines will be all about the 48-megapixel camera but the device has many selling points. One of which is the design. It features a water-drop notch at the front with slim bezels all-around and a small bottom chin as you’d expect. The buttons are all on the right, the sim-tray on the left, just the usual things.

What’s interesting is the inclusion of a USB Type C charging port at the bottom along with a headphone jack. There is a fingerprint reader on the gorgeous dual-tone gradient back panel. Although, that’s only the Twilight Gold color variant. The Bright Black and Fantasy Blue do look pretty good too.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Specs

The display on the front is a 6.3-inch LTPS display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2340 pixels which translates to full HD+ in normal English. It gets pretty bright at 450 nits and has 84 percent NTSC color gamut. The display itself is made of 2.5F curved glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Underneath it sits the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC paired with either 3GB, 4GB or 6GB, depending on the variant you buy. Storage options include 32GB and 64GB of internal memory which is expandable u tp 256GB via a microSD Card. The microSD card, however, will use up space for the second SIM since this is a hybrid dual SIM device.

Then there’s that dual camera setup on the back featuring the much talked about 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5-megapixel sensor. It has 48 million tiny 0.8-micron pixels to ensure good, detailed images in ample lighting. Under low-light situations, the camera combines surrounding pixels to create an image which is the equivalent of a 12-megapixel photo taken with larger 1.6-micron pixels. This was all Xiaomi talking about their hardware though but we know it’s just one side of the story. How good the camera actually performs, we will know soon as the device reaches in the hands of users and reviewers.

The front camera is a 13-megapixel selfie shooter which is great for the price but nothing fancy. Powering all of this is a 4000mAh battery which supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.

Price

Xiaomi isn’t known for the great camera like Google or the great hardware like Samsung. It is a brand best known for its aggressive eye-ball grabbing pricing. And Xiaomi has pretty much done it again. All those specs above mentioned are hard to find in devices priced higher than the Redmi Note 7. Yet, the Redmi Note 7 brings you all of this at Yuan 999 for the 3GB/32GB model which is the equivalent of a little more than ₹10,000.

The 4GB/64GB variant will cost Yuan 1199 (~₹12,000) while the 6GB/64GB variant will cost Yuan 1399 (~₹14,000). Even the highest priced variant undercuts the competition by quite a margin.
