There are a lot of city-building games on the Google play store, and if you are into such games, you might have played a few yourself. In all honesty, I’m not a fan of any of the popular titles. There are two main reasons for this: one; the lack of simplicity, and two; In-App Purchases. Hence, I completely gave up on the genre a long time ago. That is until I found Pocket City which, in my opinion, is the best city-building game available for Android.
Review: Pocket City
Pocket City has a simple foundation: You start the game with a small plot of land and some cash. As the mayor of this new city, your job is to make it thrive with people. Your first order of business is to start the development of roads. Once you are done with that, you have to indulge in more construction activities to make the city livable & attract residents. You can choose from industrial, commercial, and residential zones.
The area of land for construction is decided by starting a point on the map & dragging it accordingly on the grids. The buildings get constructed in a few seconds. Next, you have to make sure that these buildings have access to water & electricity by setting up water & electric plant in central locations while making sure that everything is connected together with the help of roads.
As you keep building various zones, you’ll start attracting people to live in your city. A chart at the top shows you which zone is in demand at the present. You have to design your construction plan accordingly. The more commercials zones you set up, the more money you’ll raise, which, in turn, can be used for more construction. For example, recreational activities like the beach, aquarium, parks, art gallery, etc. can be used to attract people to your city.

There’s the option to check your city’s statistics like income per second, happiness level, congestion level, imports, exports, etc. The charts & stats give you the idea of what to do next in the game.
After setting up a few necessary zones, you start receiving quests. Solving these quests provides you with XPs which help you level up & unlock new structures like better electric plants, police station, hospitals, etc. to further grow the city. Leveling up also provides you with cash.

Once you run out of the land, you can purchase more. And, if you’ve got no more land available for use, you can demolish your established buildings to make space.
So, in short, you create, earn, and then create some more. That’s how the game works.
