The kernel for OnePlus 2 is now available on GitHub. The kernel source is licensed under GPL that means it is made available to the public as open sourceย and is open to Development. So if you want to develop Custom ROMS for the OnePlus 2 then you can do it without any barriers.
The company’s co-founderย Carl Pei has announced on Twitter that the kernel source for the OnePlus 2 is now available on GitHub. Thisย will make developers around the world to build custom ROMS and develop kernels based on the Stock kernel and ROM for the Chinese manufacturer’s latest flagship phone.
OnePlus 2 comes with Oxygenย OS and out of the box Android version 5.1. When One Plus, its first flagship phone, was released it came with Cyanogen OS built but Cyanogen Community but later the rights to Cyanogen OS were sold to Micromax. However, eventuallyย the Cyanogen OS was dumped by the Chinese manufacturer and Oxygen OS was built for its Smartphones.
The company also pushed an update to its Oxygen OS later in the days to bring updates to stability and improvements. Moreover, a patch for StageFright vulnerability was also pushed through updates.ย The update also comes withย a new camera app with different user interface than the previous one. This camera also features aย slow motion video capture at 120fps. The update brought many stability updates and improvements like improving battery life and more.
Now as the kernel has become open source, it can now be built to develop and run new ROMS and kernels for the OnePlus 2 and is availableย on GitHub right now. Although the development may require a while to bring stable and bugs free releases for the custom ROMS, it sure will open doors to many developers and Android users to get new builds for the OnePlus 2.
