G5 is the latest offering by LG in its G series of smartphones. G5 is a complete overhaul in design department with the new all metal body and a modular design. Specifications include top of the line hardware with Snapdragonย 820, 4Gb RAM, 16 MP rear camera, a 5.3-inch quad-HD screen and a micro SD card slot for memory expansion.
Rooting your device is the best thing you could do on your Android device. Rooting provides you full control of your device, you could delete anything you want to and also install anything. You can customize your device according to your needs to provide you better user experience. But for rooting your Android device there are certain steps to be followed. The first step is unlocking Bootloader, this may be a single step procedure for few devices but for some ofย the devices it is not an easy procedure.
Untilย now there was no method to unlock the bootloader for LG G5, but recently LG released it for the European variant(H850). Follow the steps given below to Unlock bootloader of your LG G5 to enjoy root on your device and gain full control of your device.
Before starting the following procedure make sure you copy all you important data on your device to your PC. You may use the LG Bridge software available on LG’s website to backup and restore all your data.
Warning: Unlocking the bootloader will void your device’s warranty. Also, any harm to your device during the process will be solely your responsibility.
Things You Will Need

LG G5 H850 (European variant) and a PC

USB Drivers
Download and install USB drivers for LG on your PC.

ADB and Fastboot
Your PC should have ADB and Fastboot drivers installed. If your PC doesn’t have them, read our guide onย “How to Setup ADB and Fastboot on Windows within Seconds“.
Bootloader Unlock for European LG G5
Step 1.ย Enable Developer Options in the Settingsย application of your LG G5. To do so open Settings app >About Phone> Software Info, then tap Build Number multiple times (7 times to be exact). This will give you a toast notification saying “You are now a Developer“.
Step 2.ย Now open the Developer Options and enable the option that saysย USB Debugging. You will also have to enable the optionย that says Enable OEM Unlocking, which can also be found in the Developer Options as well.
Step 3.ย Now make sure your PC has ADB and Fastboot installed, if not install them using our guide on “How to Setup ADB and Fastboot on Windows within Seconds“. Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable.
Step 4.ย Once your PC has ADB and Fastboot installed, open a command prompt where you installed the ADB and fastboot drivers. Then type the following command toย Reboot your device into Bootloader mode:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 5.ย Once your device has booted into bootloader mode type the following command in the command prompt:
fastboot oem device-id
This command will return a string. This is the Device ID will be used to the generate unique bootloader unlock key for your device.
Example:
$ fastboot oem device-id (bootloader)----------------------------------------------------------------- (bootloader) Device-ID (bootloader) CD58B679A38D6B613ED518F37A05E013 (bootloader) F93190BD558261DBBC5584E8EF8789B1 (bootloader)-----------------------------------------------------------------
Step 6.ย To generate the Device ID you will have to copy both the strings given in the output to formย one continuousย string. For the above example Device ID would be:
CD58B679A38D6B613ED518F37A05E013F93190BD558261DBBC5584E8EF8789B1
Step 7. Now login to LG developer website, if you don’t have an LG account Register yourself at the link provided. Once you have logged into the LG Developer’s website head over to this link.
Step 8.ย Scroll down and click the Start Unlocking the Bootloader button. You will see Legal Terms being displayed now on your screen, click I Accept button to proceed.
Step 9.ย Enter the first 15 digits of your phoneโs IMEI number. You can view the IMEI number by entering *#06# on your phone or selecting the Settings >> About phone >> Status >> IMEI menu. Also,ย paste the Device ID you have generated in the above steps.
Step 10.ย Now click the Confirm button. If your IMEI number and Device ID are valid, the bootloader Unlock key will be sent to your email.
Step 11. Downloadย the unlock key from your mail and paste it in the folder where you installed Fastboot and ADB.
Step 12.ย Now while your device is still in fastboot mode and is connected to your PC, enter the following command in the command prompt:
This will unlock your device and wipe all the data from your device.
fastboot flash unlock unlock.bin
Step 13.ย To reboot your device enter the following command:
fastboot reboot
Congratulations! you have successfully unlocked theย bootloader of your LG G5. Now root your LG G5 following this guide.
