Last year, HMD made it to headlines when they launched their first PureView smartphone with Penta-lens setup. It works fine, but it is far from success. Problems made it difficult for consumers to fully trust the device. Now, there’s a lot of speculations lately to what’s next with the PureView brand.
For starters, HMD has invested lots of money last year for the R&D of its imaging department. ZEISS is back on Nokia smartphones, but PureView is missing in the last two years of their business. It was rumored that HMD is working with Light to develop unique imaging on future Nokia smartphones. This was later confirmed when the company launched the Nokia 9 PureView at MWC 2019.
The device is promising but has lots of problems from the start. The fingerprint sensor doesn’t work as expected, the camera process is sluggish, and the specifications are behind from competitors.
Regardless, the device did bring up some unique features. It is the first smartphone to fully integrate a custom-made imaging co-processor with Snapdragon SoC. Its clever 12,000 layer post-depth adjustment is also something no other smartphones can ever achieve.
HMD Global calls the device “limited edition” which sounds more like trust issues. They were right, the Nokia 9 PureView isn’t a best-seller and didn’t perform well in the market. So rumor has it, HMD Global will stop working with Light’ technology for future Nokia flagships.
According to some reports, this is due to the company’s poor post-launch support for the Nokia 9 PureView. But a trusted Nokia source, Nokia anew, discredit some of these rumors.
Earlier this year, Nokia anew revealed that HMD Global is dropping the Nokia 9.1 in favor of the Nokia 9.2. He claims that the device will be delayed due to the change of the processor. Allegedly, the smartphone will use the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC instead of last year’s Snapdragon 855.

Nokia anew confirmed that HMD now stopped working with Light although the technology remains. According to him, HMD Global now owns the technology and will continue using it for future flagship smartphones. He also revealed that HMD will create the co-processor themselves and that there may be more than five cameras at the back.
But they will create the coprocessor themselves. There may be more than five cameras, or the number will remain the same. There is no final prototype yet. However, using more than 6 cameras causes problems with the power system.
So friends, do not trust fakes.

According to him, there is currently no final prototype for the Nokia 9.2. He also mentioned that using six cameras all at once causes problems with the system. It will be interesting how HMD and ZEISS will be able to solve these problems.
No. This technology is owned by HMD Global.

We are not sure if we will be able to see the Nokia 9.2 on stage at the MWC 2020. Regardless, this year will be an exciting year for smartphones and we are excited to see the new trends.
