Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users can now taste the latest iteration of Android on their devices following this guide. Samsung has started a public Beta program to test its Android Marshmallow builds for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. If you have a Galaxy S6 or a Galaxy S6 Edge you can Sign-up for the Beta program and you will receive the update to Marshmallow build.
The program has started for the devices bought from the United Kingdom and that have model numberย SM-G920F/SM-G925F only. Though the program has started in UK only users from other areas can also Sign-Up for the Beta program, but they will have to flash UK specific firmware as described below.
Things You Will Need
- Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) or Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925F)
- Odin v3.10.7ย (Only if you are using non-UK/ non-BTU device)
- Galaxy S6 (G920F)ย BTU UK firmwareย | ย Google Drive Link
- Galaxy S6 Edge (G925F) BTU UK firmwareย | ย Google Drive Link
Disclaimer:ย Keep in mind that following the instructions below is something you do at your own risk. Donโt blame us (or Samsung) if anything goes wrong! Make sure to make a complete backup of your device, just in case something goes wrong.
Steps to Follow
- First, make sure your phoneโs model number is SM-G920F or SM-G925F. Check this in the Settingsย ยป About device menu.ย Also, make sure youโre using an unlocked version of the phone.
- Then, check if your phoneโs current firmware has the BTU product code. To do so, download the SamMobile Device Info app from the Googleย Play Store, open it, swipe to the Firmware tab, then check out the Product Code. The Product Code should have BTU mentioned after the phoneโs model number.
- If itโs BTU, download the Galaxy Care app from the Galaxy Apps store on your phone (or grab the APK from this link, transfer it to your phone and install it manually).
- Open Galaxy Care app, agree to the legal terms on the welcome screen and then press Next to head to the main screen of Galaxy Care.
- Now, at the top of the app, swipe around till you get the screen where it says โParticipate Galaxy Beta Program.โ Here, click the Join button.
- Then, press the Registration button at the bottom. Agree to the license terms after that, and voila, you will be given the option to download the Android 6.0 beta firmware sometime within the next 24 hours if Samsung selects you for the beta!
Forย Those Not in the UK Or with non-BTU Product Code:
Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users who have devices with model numberย SM-G920F/SM-G925Fย but are not in the UK or have a different firmware can also enrol themselves in the Beta test program if you are so eager to do so. All you need to take care is that you haveย SM-G920F/SM-G925F model of your device. You cannot install the beta firmware on any other model of either device.ย Once you are sure you have the correct device, you would need to install the BTU version of the UK firmware for your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge.
Hereโs a link to the Galaxy S6 BTU UK firmware, and a link to the Galaxy S6 edge BTU UK firmware. To install the downloaded firmware on your phone, just follow the instructions given on the download page. Flashing this firmware should not wipe your data (nor void your warranty), but do a backup just to be safe.ย Once your deviceย has booted into the newly flashed firmware, just follow the guide above from step 3 to get the Android 6.0 software.
Give your feedback on the Beta builds in the comments below. Also, ask any query regarding flashing the firmware or any other doubts you might have.
Hey magrospic, the files attached in this post are for Android 5.1.1 only. This guide tells you how to enroll in the Beta program started by Samsung to test Android 6.0 on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices. Apparently the beta program has now ended. So wait for the official update to try out Android Marshmallow on your device.
Thanks Tanmay. I was just being a little impatient!!! ๐
Flashed seemingly successfully on UK Vodafone SM-G925F but upon restart only shows as 5.1.1 – any ideas?!
Sounds strange! Try a data factory reset: https://www.droidviews.com/how-to-perform-data-factory-reset-and-wipe-cache-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/
and then flash again.
PS also not in bootloop, just bog standard 5.1.1, and not 6!
Thanks Rakesh. For some reason my post was deleted, although no offensive language etc! I wiped data/reset/cache etc then re-flashed using G925FXXU3COI9_G925FBTU3COJ1_G925FXXU3COI9_HOME tar md5 and Odin but still oddly just on 5.1.1. No boot loop problems, just straight in with 5.1.1
Hi, I just checked the firmware build and discovered that XXU3COI9 is a 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware. You downloaded wrong firmware. See the attachment.
Thanks for this good article. I don’t get the “participate in the BETA program” at the top of the Galaxy Care app unfortunately. Do you think Samsung have closed the BETA program?
You can expect it to be released anytime in first quarter of 2016.
Thanks. One more question if you don’t mind please, is the BTU firmware link at the end of your post the latest one available for the SGS6 edge to this day?
Cause I currently have a vodafone firmware and I want to change it to a BTU one. thank you!
Yes that’s the latest one released for that model number. Make sure to backup your files before proceeding.. ๐
I did it too late apparently, I have a message in the app saying that the Beta program is now closed ๐ I guess I will have to wait until April! lol
