Less than 6 months after the last one, Huawei is already out with the Huawei Mediapad M5 Youth Edition tablet. The new tablet is available in 8-inch and 10-inch screen sizes and in WiFi and LTE models. Along with that is a new design and, of course, brand new wallpapers. Design

The design of the Huawei Mediapad M5 Youth Edition is not very similar to the last one. It does still have thick bezels and a metallic back but there’s no physical home button. There is a plastic bar at the top for the antennas and the frame is made of half metal and half plastic. It isn’t the thinnest and lightest but as we said, it only costs ~$179. The device feels premium enough for the price but it’s obviously not giving any competition to the iPad.

The Volume and power buttons are located on the right and two speakers are at the top and bottom. This time Huawei has teamed up with Harman Kardon to provide professionally tuned audio combined with Huawei’s own Histen 5.0 for surround sound.

The bottom also houses a micro USB port (not USB Type C), an external microSD card slot and a headphone jack. Huawei Mediapad M5 Youth Edition is available in Deep grey and Champagne gold color options.

Upfront is an 8-inch or 10-inch TFT IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1,920 pixels by 1,200 pixels. The Huawei Mediapad M5 Youth Edition features a Kirin 710 or Kirin 710F octa-core processor. Huawei says both chipsets have the same performance but different packaging processes. With that, you get either 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB of built-in storage or a 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB of built-in storage. The 10-inch variant has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Above the display sits an 8MP f/2.0 camera sensor for making video calls or for when you absolutely need a selfie really bad. The rear 13 MP f/2.2 camera is also not very great but most people don’t expect much out of a tablet camera anyway. Nobody really uses a tablet for photography. The Huawei Mediapad M5 Youth Edition does not have a certified water-resistance rating either.

The tablet is powered by a 5100 mAh battery which takes around 2.8 hours to charge fully. Out of the box, it runs Android Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.0 on top. In terms of connectivity options, you get optional LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1+LE, GPS, and a micro USB port.
