Popular Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei unveiled an opulent and luxurious version of the recently introduced Mate 20 Pro, the Mate 20 RS Porsche Design along with the former. As you might have guessed, this device is designed by Porsche Design in a collaboration between Porsche and Huawei.
The Mate RS Porsche Design is equipped with a notched gigantic 6.39in Quad HD+ OLED wide 19.5:9 display with a resolution of 1440 x 3120 that makes up for a pixel density of 538 PPI. The performance all you need is handled by an in-house flagship grade Kirin 980 SoC coupled with a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU aided by 8GB of RAM on the 256/512GB variant.
Huawei’s all-new and proprietary Nano-Memory card slot is available for expandable storage that can handle cards at a size of up to 256GB is onboard for expandable storage. An in-display fingerprint scanner and Huawei’s 3D Face Sensing for unlocking the phone (although not secure enough compared to Apple’s Face ID) are onboard as biometric authentication options. The Mate 20 RS Porsche Design is IP68 certified for water resistance and dust proofing.
Three cameras at the rear
Photography is handled by a triple camera setup at the rear featuring a primary wide-angle 40MP (f/1.8 lens) (PDAF/Laser AF) + a 20MP ultra-wide angle (f2.2 lens) + 8MP (telephoto) (f/2.4) sensors combination assisted by a dual LED dual-tone flash. A 24MP (f/2.0) camera is up front. Both the front and back cameras can record video at a resolution of up to 1080p @ 30fps and 4K @ 30fps respectively.
Battery Power and charging tech, connectivity and Android OS
A massive 4200mAh battery is onboard to provide enough juice to the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design. A USB-C port for charging is onboard the device. Having said that the device also features ultra-fast battery charging known as Huawei SuperCharge (40W). Speaking of which, the technology can charge the battery all the way from 0% to 70% in just half an hour, which is sweet!
The Mate 20 RS Porsche Design also features Wireless Quick Charge (15W) which helps charge the phone from 0% to 30% in 30 minutes. Interestingly, the device employs a new wireless charging technique dubbed Wireless Reverse Charging. This new feature provides the user with the ability to charge their wireless charging equipped phone by placing it on the Mate 20 RS Porsche Design’s rear panel.
Coming to the connectivity side of the device, it has you all covered with Dual VoLTE, Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE with support for aptX HD audio, A2DP and EDR, GPS for navigation and location-based services and more. Disappointingly, an audio jack is nowhere to be seen on the device.
The Mate 20 RS Porsche Design runs on Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0 which is Huawei’s take on Android customization out of the box.
Expensive pricing, availability and paint jobs
Coming to the pricing and availability, the Mate 20 RS Porsche Design is very expensive and so will set you back around EUR 1,695 and €2,095 for the 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB variants respectively. As far as the paint jobs are concerned, it is available in Black or Red (China-specific color). The device has started shipping across the globe and so will be available in the coming days and weeks.
