Popular Chinese smartphone maker Huawei took the wraps off the Huawei Mate 20 Pro yesterday. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is based upon a glass-on-glass design and build. The smartphone features a 6.39 notched and curved 19:5:9 Quad HD+ OLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3120.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is powered by the all-new in-house flagship grade Kirin 980 SoC coupled with a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU, 6GB of RAM. Internal storage is generous at 128GB.

There is a dedicated expandable storage card slot (an all-new Nano-Memory card standard by Huawei) (utilizes the SIM2 slot) present in the device that can handle cards of size up to 256 GB. An under-display fingerprint scanner and Huawei’s flavor of Apple’s Face ID is onboard as biometric authentication options. The Mate 20 Pro is IP68 certified for water resistance and dust proofing.

Photography is handled by a triple camera setup at the rear featuring a primary wide-angle 40MP (f/1.8 lens) (PDAF/Laser AF) + a 20MP ultra-wide angle (f2.2 lens) + 8MP (telephoto) (f/2.4) sensors combination assisted by a dual LED dual-tone flash. A 24MP (f/2.0) shooter is up front for selfieholics out there. Both the front and back cameras can record video at a resolution of up to 1080p @ 30fps and 4K @ 30fps respectively.

A massive 4200mAh battery is onboard the Huawei Mate 20 Pro to keep it ticking on and also the device is charged via the USB-C port to top it up and having said that the device also features ultra-fast battery charging known as Huawei SuperCharge (40W). Speaking of which, the technology can charge the battery all the way from 0% to 70% in just half an hour, impressive isn’t it? The Mate 20 Pro also features Wireless Quick Charge (15W) which helps charge the phone from 0% to 30% in 30 minutes. With that said, Huawei has brought a brand new charging technique known as Wireless Reverse Charging. This industry-first feature allows one to charge their wireless charging equipped device by placing it on top of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro’s rear panel. Again whether this feature is gimmicky or not, time will tell. Nevertheless, Props to Huawei for bringing something fresh, new and innovative to the table.

Connectivity and Android version

Coming to the connectivity side of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it has you covered with Dual VoLTE, Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE with aptX HD audio codec support, A2DP, Dual-band GPS for navigation and location-based services and more. Sadly, the device isn’t equipped with the good old headphone jack we all love. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro runs on Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0 out of the box.

Pricing, color options, and availability

As for pricing, The Huawei Mate 20 Pro will set you back EUR 1,050/INR 89,142. The device is available in Emerald Green, Twilight, Pink Gold, Midnight Blue, and Black paint jobs. The device has started shipping already and so will be available in the coming days in various markets across the globe.

Design: part Apple part Huawei!

Design-wise, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro looks like the iPhone X up front with that notched display design. However, Flip the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and there you have a camera module that’s designed by Huawei itself. Take a look at the image below.

Huawei also debuted the largest gaming phone in the industry, the Huawei Mate 20 X yesterday. The Huawei Mate 20 X is based upon a glass-on-glass design and build. The smartphone features a larger than life 7.2in water-drop style notched 18:7:9 Full HD+ OLED display with a resolution of 1080x 2244. The Huawei Mate 20 X is powered by the all-new in-house flagship grade Kirin 980 SoC coupled with a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU employing Huawei GPU Turbo 2.0 for overall better and smoother gameplay and 6GB of RAM. Internal storage is generous at 128GB. There is a dedicated expandable storage card slot (an all-new Nano-Memory card by Huawei) (utilizes the SIM2 slot) present in the device that can handle cards of size up to 256 GB. A rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and Huawei’s flavor of basic front camera-based face unlock is onboard for biometric authentication purposes. The Mate 20 X is IP53 certified for water splash and dust resistance.

Samsung Galaxy Note, beware!: Huawei M-Pen stylus is here…

Huawei is on a mission to target the Samsung Galaxy Note buyers with the introduction of M-Pen stylus for the Mate 20 X. The screen on the Mate 20 X can sense up to 4,096 levels of pressure with the M-Pen stylus. However, there is a catch as in the Huawei M-Pen needs to be purchased separately as it isn’t included with the Mate 20 X. Speaking of which, quite strangely, there is not even a dedicated slot present in the phone to park the stylus securely when not in use.

Pricing, color options and availability

As for pricing, The Huawei Mate 20 X will set you back EUR 900/INR 76,405. The device is available in Midnight Blue and Phantom Silver paint jobs. The device will make its way to markets starting October 26 and so will be available in the coming days and weeks in various markets across the globe.
