Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has received an updated which takes it to the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version. As the firmware has been updated, the previous root methods won’t work on this one. However, Phil3759, a recognized developer, has developed a modified kernel for Galaxy Note 4 that can be rooted. This custom kernel needs to be flashed through a custom recovery like TWRP. Hence, you need to install TWRP on your device, and only then can you root Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
You also need to flash the SuperSU package after you flash the kernel. This custom kernel supports root, and SuperSU package is to provide root access. ย This process will trip KNOX, that means, you won’t be able to install or update Samsung apps and Samsung Pay won’t work; as KNOX will be disabled. This works only on N910F variant. If you have an updated Galaxy Note 4 and want to root it, then this tutorial will guide you through the same.
Requirements
- The listed custom kernelย is compatible with only Samsung Galaxy Note 4ย N910F. Do not try it on any other device or variant.
- You need a Custom Recovery like TWRP installed on your device.
- You must have device drivers installed on your PC so that you can transfer the ROM file to your deviceโs storage.
- You must fully charge your device or at least to 60%, as the process may take a while.

Backup your Apps and Data
Before you proceed,ย make sure you backup all your data. This process will wipe all the data from your device except for the internal storage. Hence, a full backup or nandroid backup is recommended. Also backupย all your internal storage files just in case anything goes wrong.

How toย Root Samsung Galaxy Note 4 N910F on Android 5.1.1 Update
- Download the custom kernel from the download section. Also, download either the listed Google Apps or get your preferred ones.
- Now transfer the two listed zip files into your deviceโs internal storage. Place the zip file where you can easily locate it.
- Make sure you have TWRP installed on your Galaxy Note 4 andย reboot into it. To boot into TWRP, press and hold home, volume down and power keysย at the same time.
- It is highly recommended that youย perform a nandroid backup. To back up, your ROM, tap on backup option in TWRP and select the following elements: System, Data, Boot, Recovery, EFS and swipe right where appropriate, to back up.
- After performing the ROM backup, return to the TWRP main menu and tap theย Installย button and select navigate to the location of the custom kernel.ย Select it and perform the swipe operation.
- Go back to the TWRP main menu or home screen again and tap on Install option. Navigate to the SuperSU file andย install it.
- Now reboot to system.
