Hi,
I’m having a problem with google chrome on windows 10. Chrome keeps randomly opening a hidden window, the only way I can see this is that there is a second instance of chrome on the windows taskbar.
If I close chrome using the close X in the top right ‘minimize, maximise, close’ button my instance of chrome closes but the rogue website stays open but invisible (only noticeable because of the taskbar thing). If I shutdown/restart the computer and start chrome I loose the tabs I was working with and just get this random website. It’s such a pain and a bit of a worry.
Anyone else having this or had this and found a fix for it?
Just to confirm I’ve had a search for this and found a thread on reddit:
I’ve had this problem for about a week now, I’ve got malwarebytes and ran the scan, it comes up malware free, I’m using avast antivirus, windows defender, nothing is flagging up any problems. I’ve deleted all cookies. It’s still happening, the last few times I’ve hovered over the windows taskbar where the hidden windows show up as second or third instance of chrome, used the reopen closed tab option to find what the hidden website is.
the last couple of websites are:
These sites are new to me, I’ve not been to them or used them.
Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.
I’ve removed adblock from my extensions and cleared cookies again and the problem is still there.
Chrome still opens an invisible page even when I have 127.0.0.1 socurrent.com in my hosts file, but chrome can’t connect to any content as it’s now blocked. I’ve removed that hosts entry as it’s no the way to do it and it doesn’t stop chrome trying anyway.
I tried chrome beta and installed in on my machine without removing chrome stable. After a few minutes all my bookmarks synced, reinstated my extensions and have had no hidden tabs come up so far…
Happened on mine for 3 weeks seems to be an extension in CHROME called MOMENTUM, check your chrome extensions there is one in there which is disabling and hijacking your tabs.-Hit Ctrl – Shift – disable, select task manager and checking in there you can maximise the window bring it to the front then go inside the settings and click disable!

You can block them in Malwarebytes and Spybot and as they connected to the chrome extension it seems to bypass the anti-spyware software as you installed them seemingly through an extension. It needs the extensions disabling and then report it to GOOGLE extensions as a hijacker before removal!
Hi everybody
Me too. Socurrent site open in window in icone mode. I uninstalled chrome but it is the same with the edge browser.
Have you found a solution?
I deleted AdBlock but the problem is the same.

I’ve tried the deleting cookies a couple of times now.
The extensions I’m using are adblock plus, malwarebytes, recently closed tabs, print for google chrome.
I’ve just added a line to my hosts file:
127.0.0.1 socurrent.com
Maybe I can just block that domain and see what chrome does. Half the time it’s that domain that chrome is opening, will see what happens. Not a good way to try to fix this problem anyway.
I just got a popup from socurrent.com after changing the hosts file so that doesn’t work.
I’d be surprised if it’s Adblock but I disable it and see if it helps.
After that I think I’ll try making and logging in as a new user and see if the problem is still there.
I’ll try taking extensions away one at a time.
