Essential, the U.S. smartphone manufacturer launched the first ever smartphone from the company last year, which was named as the Essential PH-1 or the Essential Phone. Now, the company, Essential, was founded by the creator of Android, Andy Rubin, who left Google earlier and wanted to compete with the likes of Apple and others in the smartphone industry. As far as the Essential Phone’s launch is concerned, Andy Rubin announced the Essential PH-1 which comes with a slight notch on top of the display which houses the front camera and some sensors for Ambient display etc.
As far as the Essential Phone is concerned, the smartphone was announced with all the top-notch specifications that are expected from a flagship smartphone. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor which was the flagship Qualcomm processor in 2017. Apart from that, the smartphone has a dual camera setup on the back as well and comes with features like Portrait Mode and lossless optical zoom. Now, the Essential Phone was launched with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Later, Google announced the next version of Android named as Android 8.0 Oreo and the update was rolled out to the Google devices such as Pixel/Nexus.
Later, the Essential Phone started to beta test the Android 8.0 Oreo update officially in the for the Essential Phone. However, it was later announced by Essential that the Essential PH-1 would not be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo and will directly receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update as Google had already released Android 8.1 Oreo update by then. Therefore, it was anticipated that the Essential Phone would be getting the Android 8.1 Oreo update very soon.
Essential also started the beta testing for the Essential Phone based on Android 8.1 Oreo very recently and the users who wanted to beta test the soon-to-be-released version of Android could take part in the testing. Therefore, the company has now been satisfied with the beta testing of Android 8.1 Oreo and has started to roll out the Android 8.1 Oreo update to the Essential Phone.
As far as the Android 8.1 Oreo for the Essential PH-1 is concerned, the latest update installs Android 8.1 Oreo, first and foremost, which was released by Google with improvements over Android 8.0 Oreo such as redesigned Notification Toggles for Volume, faster startup and sign in, smart text selection, Google Play Protect and Instant Apps.
Apart from the above features that are included in Android 8.1 Oreo, the latest update to the Essential Phone also installs the latest March security patch update to the Essential PH-1 which was released by Google earlier this month for all the Android devices.
