Whenever we buy a brand new smartphone, our foremost concern is preserve its shininess and protect it against drops, shocks and scratches. We want it to look brand new forever. It is with these things in mind that we are willing to spend some more money on various types of protective glass shields and cases for our phone.
The concern for the complete protection of our phone grows more when you have a costly device like the Samsung Galaxy S4. After getting my S4, I had been looking for a good case for it and after a lot of googling and research, I finally decided to get the OtterBox Commuter Series case which I found here.
The case was sent to me from UK and I received it in a remote area in India on the 5th day. I was very curious to know if the actual case looked the same like the one I saw on that site, and so I could not help unpacking the parcel at the courier office. Below you can see the contents of the package that includes the following items (except for my Galaxy S4 and iPhone 4! :D)
The OtterBox Commuter Series case for the Galaxy S4 features a three-layered protection. First, there is a silicone wrap that is flexible like rubber and over it you have to put a polycarbonate hard shell. Fitted together, they make a very reliable shield for the Galaxy S4 with everything covered up properly and without interfering with any of the sensors, buttons and USB ports. It has cutouts for all ports, buttons, microphone, speakers and camera.
What I like most about this case is its masculine feel. It feels solid, changes the look of the phone altogether and makes you confident that you device is safe against accidental drops, rubs, dust and debris. The heaved edges on all sides save the screen of the device even if you put it with the display facing the floor. The silicone layer at each corner works like a shock absorber. Though I did not test it personally but my little kid seemed very much willing to do so by dropping the device a couple of times and throwing it once so far!
Another thing that I did not expect was a screen protector. In fact, I did not see it in the product preview. The case is easy to install and uninstall. The OtterBox Commuter Series case may not be the best looking case for the Galaxy S4, but it is certainly one of the most reliable one. Though the case makes the device a little thicker, it still slips neatly into the pocket.
Before we end our review, I would like to recommend the OtterBox Commuter case to all Galaxy S4 users who use their phone actively. It comes with an affordable price tag and yet the build quality is pretty nice. Get it for your Galaxy S4 and enjoy the calm of mind that comes up when you feel your costly device is safe.
