LG G5 users were among those waiting for “the call” when it comes to updating their device’s firmware. While the news that your handset will be receiving Android Nougat should be a joyful event, it seems that things might not be so black and white.
It has been reported by some LG G5 users that the device has finally reached its queue number for the update, but not everyone is getting it. It seems that a segmented deployment is being used, and some regions are getting Android Nougat while others have to wait a bit more.
To the disappointment of UK users of the LG handset, they still aren’t able to download Android Nougat. The interesting this is that UK users were promised the update a long time back. According to LG, UK LG G5 users should have been able to download it just “a few weeks” after the firmware had been made available in other regions. Korean and American users are already enjoying Android Nougat on their G5s, and a slew of other countries are following suit.
Overnight, the Philippines LG Twitter handle confirmed that the update is available. Now that more countries are able to update, it kind of splits the community into 2 groups. One is happy that it is finally able to join the “civilized” world and operate and Android 7.0 Nougat. The other half however is still doomed to wait it out, and hope that their turn comes soon. It is an awkward position to be in, sort of like when you know that your team is scheduled to play next but you’re not sure if you make the squad.
LG G5 originally started out on the previous version of Android, namely Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It’s great to see that Google is finally working to update devices that started out on the previous firmware, as it originally launched Android Nougat only for its two proprietary devices released last year, Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL. If your device doesn’t have Pixel (or Nexus) privileges, you have to take it to the back of the line and wait your turn to enjoy the latest firmware.
