If you have alreadyย updated theย firmware on your Android One device throughย our tutorials or received the updates over-the-air, then itsย most likely that you no longer have root access on your device. However, we have come up with a simple tutorial that will gain your preciousย root and make all the root-only apps run and re-enable system modifications on your device.
To achieve root, here is a Zeus kernel that will support root for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware. The guide is simple, flash the kernel through a custom Recovery like TWRP or Philz and then flash the SuperSU v2.50 that will update the superuser binaries and root your device.
Here are the Android One compatible devices for the zeus kernel
- Micromax Canvas A1
- Karbonn Sparkle V
- Spice Dream UNO
- MyPhone Uno
- Symphony Roar A50
- Cherry Mobile One
- Nexian Journey One
- Mito Impact
- Evercross One X

Requirements
- You need a Custom Recovery like TWRP installed on your Android Oneย in order to flash custom packages. To know how to flash a custom recovery, refer to this linkย and get the official TWRP from here.
- You must have device drivers installed on your PCย toย transfer the kernel ans SuperSUย files to your deviceโs storage.
- You must fully charge your device or at least to 60%, as the process may take a while.
Warning: Warranty may be void if you root or install custom packagesย on your device. We at DroidViews wonโt be liableย for any damage to your device whatsoever. We shall not be heldย responsible if you brick or damage your device. Readerโs discretion is advised.
Backup your Apps and Data
Before you proceed,ย make sure you backup all your data. This process will wipe all the data from your device except for the internal storage. Hence, a full backup or nandroid backup is recommended. Also backupย all your internal storage files just in case anything goes wrong. Perform a nandroid backup from the custom recovery before flashing the files.
Root Android One Devices on Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update
- Download the customย kernelย and the SuperSU package from the download section.
- Now transfer the two zip files into your deviceโs internal storage. Place the zip file where you can easily locate them.
- Now reboot into Custom Recovery (like TWRP). To boot into TWRP, first turn off your device and then press and hold volume down and power keysย at the same time. Select recovery if prompted.
- It is highly recommended that youย perform a nandroid backup. This is optional but to backup your ROM, tap on backup option in TWRP and select the following elements: System, Data, Boot, Recovery, EFS and swipe the confirmation button, to start backup.
- Once the backup process completes, go back to the TWRP main menu or home screen again and tap on the Installย option. Navigate to the Zeusย kernelย file and select it.
- Swipe the confirmation button to proceed with the installation. The kernelย will be installed.
- Now again return to home in the TWRPย and tap on theย install option.ย Navigate to theย SuperSUย zip fileย and select it.
- Swipe the confirmation button to proceed with the installation.
- Once installed, reboot to system.
When your system boots up completely, you will now have root access on your Android One device.ย If you come across any bootloops or face any system errors, you can restore your previous ROM from the backup. For queries, comment down below.
