Unlock the Bootloader of the Huawei MediaPad X2

Huawei had kicked off its MWC 2015 campaign with the launch of the MediaPad X2 tablet alongside the entry-level Y360 and Y635 smartphones. The successor to the Huawei MediaPad X1 features a 7-inch full-HD with a pixel density of 323ppi. It comes with dual-SIM support with voice calling support and is a 4G LTE-enabled tablet. The MediaPad X2 supports download speeds up to 300 Mbps with LTE Cat. 6 compatibility. It’s just about as slim and compact as you could expect a device with a screen this size to be. But let’s be honest here, most people will feel silly holding it up to their face to make a call, and Huawei is stretching credulity to a breaking point when it claims that the borderless design makes it “easy for single-handed operation.”

The Mediapad X2 maintains the form factor of the original, with its 7-inch display, but in a more compact iteration. Borrowing from the design cues of the Ascend Mate 7, the Mediapad X2 also comes with an 80% screen to body ratio, making it a lot smaller than you would expect. The aluminum design gives this device an elegant, premium look and great feel in the hand. It is also surprisingly thin for a device of this size, at just 7.3 mm thick, contributing to the handling experience. Going around the device, the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right, below the dual SIM card and MicroSD card slots, with the headphone jack and microUSB port found at the top and bottom respectively.

For an easy way to unlock the bootloader on your Huawei MediaPad X2 here are the steps you need to take. This has been requested by a number of users recently and here is how to get it done.

Unlock the Bootloader

First of all, you will need to note down a few things about your Huawei MediaPad X2

1. Model: GEM-703L* (Or whatever model you have)
2. Serial Number(You get this in About phone, Status)
3. IMEI Number(You get this in About phone, Status, it’s IMEI1)
4. Product ID (Go to your phone dialer and dial *#*#1357946#*#* and it will give you your Product ID)

Second, draft an email stating the following message and send it to mobile@huawei.com :

Hello. I keep getting an error when trying to unlock my phone on the unlock page.

Model: *model you have*
Serial: *your phones serial number*
IMEI: *your phones IMEI number*
Product ID:
Thank you for your help
(Your name here)

You will get an unlock code specific to your device directly from Huawei. Once you receive the reply, Download this Bootloader Unlock tool: X2-Bootloader-unlock.zip

Next, connect the phone to your computer and Shut down the device. Press and hold the volume down button and the power button. Keep holding down the volume down button, until the phone enters into bootloader mode.
Then open unlock.bat application you had downloaded above and select option 3.
Then disconnect the phone from your computer then type in the unlock code which you had received from Huawei on phone. If the unlock is successful, you will see the Android symbol and it will say Phone Unlocked underneath it.
