The Vanilla Android Lollipop was released Google about 3 months ago but, according to the latest official OS distribution stats, the new software occupies only 3.3% of the total Android expanse. The reasons behind this tiny Lollipop cut are:
1). Heavily customized versions of Android used by different OEMs.
2). Hardware limitations of older devices.
3). Neglection of older devices.
The latter does not apply to our HTC One M7 for sure. Integrating a new OS version in a non-vanilla UI does take some time but it should certainly not take more than 3 months. Whatever the reason might be, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for T-Mobile variant of the HTC One M7 finally started rolling out on Tuesday. Since we already had news about the Lollipop OTA, it certainly did not come as surprise!
If you own the T-Mobile HTC One (M7), you might have already received the new systemย update notification. In case you did not get the OTA yet, you can manually download and install it from Settings> About. ย As you might already be knowing, you would not receive the Lollipop OTA if you got a rooted phone, or have installed a custom recovery, Kernel or ROM. In that case, you will have to update your phone to Android 5.0 manually.
HTC has shared the Android 5.0 Lollipop RUU (ROM Update Utility) file that can restore the T-Mobile One M7 to the stock Android 5.0 with Sense 6.0. If you got some experience with installing the official firmware using RUU, just jump to the download link and flash it. However, if are a novice with such things, you can follow our detailed tutorial provided below.
Preparations:
- Download the Lollipop RUU file:ย RUU_M7_SENSE60_MR_TMOUS_7.18.531.2_signed.exe (not available now)
- Download and install the latest HTC Sync software or the HTC USB Drivers on your PC.
- Go to Settings> Developer options and enable USB Debugging on your One M7.
