If you remember, we did a tutorial on installing the LG G2 keyboard port with its beautiful themes a few months ago. The successor of the LG G2 has already been launched and there is still time before the all-new LG G3 becomes available in the market for aspiring users. The LG G3 is an amazing phone with smarter features than any other phone on the planet. Among the plethora of features that make it wonderful, the new smart LG G3 Keyboard app.
What makes theย LG G3 Keyboard app smartly differentย from the stock keyboards found on other smartphones is it intuitive nature. It can be adjusted to fit comfortableย typing, it learns from your typing habits and it grows by collecting data. It keeps learning how and what you type and uses the collected data to give you the best possible interpretations. Suppose, you frequently commit the mistake of typingย S’s when you actually want ย to type A’s. Theย LG G3 Keyboard will register suchย mistakes and expand the sensing area (not the key button) of A button so that you type it correctly the next time. No moreย typos!
LG G3 Keyboard also lets you adjust the height and layout. You can change the voice input, handwriting and symbol keys layout from keyboard settings. You can choose whether or not show the numeric keys on the top row of the keyboard. If you have a phone with a large display, you can even enable one-hand operation mode which aligns the keyboard to left/right side of the screen. If you like to use different types of Smileys and Emoticons while typing, the ย LG G3 Keyboard offers you hundreds of goodies. Like the older versions of LG keyboards, theย LG G3 Keyboard also supports themes. By default, you will find only the black and white themes.
If you don’t plan to get the LG G3 but would like to enjoy its keyboard app on the phone you own right now, it’s become possible now. All thanks toย Cloudyfa from XDA forum for porting theย LG G3 Keyboard app to work on all Android devices running stock KitKat or custom ROMs based on it. I tested the keyboard port on 4 devices, namely the HTC One M8, LG G2, Nexus 5 and Note 3 successfully (the screenshots on the post image are actual).

How to Install LG G3 Keyboard
Installing the Apk:
If you download the ย LG G3 Keyboardย app port in Apk format here is how you can install it:
- Download and copy the Apk file to your device.
- Since the app requires system mount, you need to install BusyBox app first. Having installing BusyBox, open the app and tap the Install button.ย [appbox googleplay stericson.busybox]
- Then open phone Settings> Security and enable Unknown sources option.
- Navigate to the G3 keyboard Apk file using a file manager and tap it to install.
- When the app is installed, open it and tap the Install button.
- Open Language and input settings and select LG Keyboard as default keyboard.
Flashing the Zip:
In my case, installing the Apk was not successful on my Nexus 5 running Carbon ROM, but the flashable Zip worked flawlessly. Flashing the keyboard port Zip is just like flashing anything using TWRP or CWM recovery. Here are the steps:
- Copy theย Cloudy_G3Keyboard.zip file to your phone.
- Boot your device into recovery mode.
- Backup your current ROM before doing anything, just to be on the safe side.
- If you use TWRP, tap the Install button, select the Zip file and confirm installation by swiping the slider. When it’s installed, wipe dalvik cache and then select Reboot system option.
- If you use CWM, select install zip from sdcard option, select the Zip file and confirm installation by selecting Yes. Wipe dalvik cache and select reboot system now.
- Wait till your device boots up and then open device Settings> Language and input. Select your keyboard.
You can now enjoyย the LG G3 keyboard app on your Android device. Do not forget to explore the keyboard settings to customize it to your requirements. Enjoy!
Hey! Thanks for the tutorial. In both ways I’m having a problem.
Everything is installed correctly, but when I’m about to use keyboard, just blank black (or grey, depending on theme) box appears, with keys missing. I tried using different themes, options, wipe cache, install apk/flashing, etc. Any suggestions?
If not, thanks anyways.
PS. I have LG G2, VanirAOSP (Lollipop).
It doesn’t work on Lollipop as of now.
I had installed(apk)the above keybrd on note 3 N9005 as mentioned in this post, but now my action memo seems to be not working. I had cleared cache/data from app manger, wiped cache from recovery menu and also a factory reset, but still action memo fails to open. It says , ‘ unfortunately action memo has stopped’. I dnt have a custom rom. Is there any fix for this as i really enjoyed using this keyboard.
problem solved after installing the apk from the same thread by Cloudyfa(installer by bender_007) in xda forums. Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2767660
In this, apk is named as lgg3kbinstaller.apk
running perfectly on my note 3(SM-N9005)..:)
Thanks a lot. Keyboard working perfectly on my nook hd+ tablet.
Does not work on my LG 4X HD, i have a stock based rom, 4.1.2, cwm 6.4.5
Did you try the Apk?
Yes, after installation and reboot, there is no keyboard, only google voice…
hi can you make a zip uninstaller of the lg3 keyboard please ๐
You can easily remove the app from System/app folder using Root Browser.
thanks ๐ but it also contains lib file but doesnt matter i already remove it i prefer the lg g2 keyboard it nice thanks for it
Extract the LG keyboard flashable zip, mark the file names and directories it pushes to your device and delete them using Root Browser.
hi rakesh i have tried installing the apk and even through recovery but no success.
can u help if i am doing something wrong.
i am using miui rom on my s3.
What error do you see?
No error it get installed successfully but after rebooting no keyboard found.
In that case, the problem is MIUI itself. Various mods do not work on MIUI.
So that means there’s no other way
Changing you ROM seems to be the only way!
using sony xperia z1, I’m getting bootloop after installing the apk file, tried wipe cache & dalvik and then flash the zip, I’m still get bootloop. ๐
Have you created a backup? If yes, restore it and try the Apk method.

Well, you can install it without a custom recovery but root is must. You own a Nexus without root? Surprised, bro!

haha thanks man! can i contact you further if i have anymore questions? haha
You’ll drop a comment and I’ll be there. Time zones might be the only hurdle.
haha ive only had my nexus 5 for 2 months now, do you think it’ll be a good idea to root my device? as i read from your artivle you said that it will make my guarantee void.
I rooted my device the day I got it. You’ll need the warranty only if you drop your phone and even in that case they do not provide free service. As for any king of software level issue, you can fix it yourself.
will definetely try to root my device, thankyou for the info bro! will contact you later for further assistance. HAHA
Sure…
