Data connectivity is the very soul of devices like smartphones tablets and computers. All of us get a good data plan based on our monthly usage but when things become complicated when we have more than one devices. It’s in such situations thatย WiFi tethering or portable hotspot becomes a very useful feature.
While most Android smartphones come blessed with portable hotspot feature out of the box, some network carriers tend to kill this feature and charge the users for unlockingย WiFi tethering. Many users are forced to root their phones and install a mod or hack to get tethering working.
You can find severalย apps in the Google Play Store that claim to enable tethering on Android devices but most of them do not work on the US variants of Android phones. Newย WiFi tethering apps keep coming but as soon as the carriers become aware of a working app, they do not waste a single moment and kill their workability with a new OTA.
FoxFi is one of the most popular apps forย WiFiย tethering.ย It used to work fine on a number of ย Verizon phones on certain Android 4.3 builds. Since the timeย the Samsung Galaxy S4 received the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update,ย WiFi tethering via FoxFi stopped working again. If you had been missing this feature on your Samsung phone from Verizon since the KitKat update, there’s is a good news for you.
The developers behind FoxFi haveย released an update to the app just a couple of days ago that brings backย WiFi tethering on Verizon Samsung phones running the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat without root access. Currently, only 2 Samsung devices, namely the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S4 have got KitKat but the update might hit the Galaxyย Note 3 any moment.
Well, we have no ideaย what trickery the developers of the app have devised but they have been successful in achieving the goal. If you own a Verizon Galaxy S5, S4 or the Note 3, just get FoxFi on your phone and start enjoyingย WiFi tethering on your device right away. Please note that FoxFi gives turns your phone into an open portable hotspot and this means that its makes you data open to all nearby device. Be careful!

Look Betasigma1 post.
Is there any way to secure my data against intrusion if I continue to use FoxFi? I accidentally got stuck with the KitKat update about which I am not happy, but don’t know if I want to fix my FoxFi if it opens me up to intruders. I use a Galaxy S3 on Verizon.
Unfortunately, FoxFi has this issue. Please, contact the developer on the Play Store to fix it.
Just downloaded the latest FoxFi on a Sprint Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 build PUBNC6 and it doesn’t bypass the hotspot subscription requirement.
It works flawlessly on Vzw S4.
So? That’s not on Sprint.
No, to get tethering working on the Sprint model, you need to have root and a custom recovery. If you already have them, flash the appropriate WiFi hotspot mod corresponding to your firmware version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50443121&postcount=1
That’s for older builds. The latest is VPUBNC6. I’ve spent a few hours searching on this but only find fixes for NAE or older.
Found a WiFi Router app that worked but only after dialing ##72786# to reset network settings and redo activation. That also cured its inability to find any 4G or LTE signal.
Did NOT fix FoxFi’s not working. Sprint has totally nerfed it and many other tethering apps with the NC6 firmware.
