Have you upgraded from a Verizon Galaxy S3 to Galaxy S4 from the same carrier? Just remember how lazy the big red was in sending Android 4.1.2 update to the older device? The largest US mobile network provider has never been literally prompt in pushing new updates to its devices.
We all know that Nexus devices are the first to get Android updates but when they get into the clutches of Verizon, they can only pine and crave for firmware upgrade. Even at a time when Android 4.4 KitKat update is just around the corner, Nexus 4 has not yet received 4.3!
That being told, you would jump a bit to know that this slow-to-act carrier has surprisingly shown some agility in sending the latest version of Android to its variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4. It might sound unbelievable, but it’s true. The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Verizon Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 firmware update with Build version VRUEMJ7 has started rolling out.
If you have this smartphone, you can hook up your device to computer to receive the latest update. If you have yet got the update notification on your device, you can request the update manually by going to Settings> More> About> Software update> Update. When the full firmware or OTA package is available, we would add them here too.
Please note that your device will be eligible for the official update only if it is unrooted. If you have already rooted your device and using a custom firmware, do not worry as it won’t take long before new Android 4.3 based ROMs are available for you.

If you have not rooted your Verizon Galaxy S4, you can get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update manually by installing the update zip file via stock recovery.
- Download VRUEMJ7 Manual OTA Update File: update.zip
- Copy the zip to your external SD card.
- Turn off the phone and boot it into recovery mode. To do this, hold the Volume Up+Home+Power buttons of your phone for 4-5 seconds.
- When you enter the Android system recovery, scroll down (using volume down key) to “apply update from external sdcard” option.
- Navigate and select (using Power button) to the “update.zip” file and confirm your choice.
- When the file is installed, select “reboot system now”.

I have kitkat 4.4.2 now. Is there any updated firmware i can go with now?
Its not working in my mobile. I got Build version VRUAME7 and trying to update to 4.3. My mobile is Verizon unlocked version. While trying to load the file copied in SD card through recovery mode. It went through some process and left some error message in red and re-booted. Could you please help in this?

Steps in short:
1. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
2. Place your phone into “Download Mode” (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key) and Flash theI545_NC5_Stock_Kernel using Odin’s PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
3. Open Towelroot from your app drawer and press “Make it Rain” to root your device.
4. Power off then boot into “Download Mode” again and flash the I545_NK1_Stock_Kernel also using Odin’s PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
5. Download SuperSU to manage root access. Done!
whether i have to run both NC5 and NK1 kernel, since my build number I545VRUFNK1
Towelroot works on NC5 so install the NC5 kernel first, then root the device using Towelroot V3. When your S4 is rooted, install the NK1 kernel back.
