Pablo Escobar’s brother — Roberto De Jesús Escobar Gaviria or Roberto Escobar, launched a new ‘affordable’ foldable phone. Yes, the notorious drug kingpin’s brother aims to go head to head with Apple and other smartphone companies such as Samsung with the launch of the Escobar Fold 1.
The foldable smartphone looks a lot like the Royole FlexPai which was the first foldable phone to be launched. Albeit, it was nowhere as refined as some other foldable phones launched later, such as the Galaxy Fold. This isn’t the first time Roberto Escobar launched an unexpected product. Earlier this year, he launched a flamethrower that was similar to Elon Musk’s ‘Not a Flamethrower’.
An affordable folding phone for everyone
This is one of the cheapest foldable phones you can buy right now. The Escobar Fold 1 is priced at $349 or roughly Rs. 25,000. On the other hand, the Galaxy Fold costs a whopping $1,980 or Rs. 1,64,999. It’s easy to see the huge price gap between the two folding phones. In a statement shared with Digital Trends, Roberto Escobar claims that the Escobar Fold 1 will be a lot more durable than the Galaxy Fold thanks to the “special type of plastic” used for the panel.
The Escobar Fold 1 will be available as a carrier unlocked device, thus you would be able to use the phone anywhere in the world. Additionally, those looking to purchase the device will be able to do so directly from the Escobar Inc website. To make the deal even sweeter, you don’t have to pay shipping charges.

Escobar Fold 1 Specifications
The Escobar Fold 1 comes with a 7.8-inch flexible AMOLED display with a FullHD resolution of 1920 x 1444. The screen on the device folds outwards unlike the Galaxy Fold which folds inwards. This definitely brings up the question about durability since the plastic screen can be scratched easily.
Powering the device is the current flagship chipset — the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. You also get 6GB RAM and 128GB storage with the base variant of the device. Although, there’s another variant with 8GB RAM and 512GB onboard storage. You can also expand the storage via a microSD card which has become a rarity these days.
Moving over to the cameras, there’s a 16-megapixel f/1.8 primary camera paired with a 20-megapixel secondary camera. For juice, it’s got a 4000mAh battery which seems you might have to charge the device mid-day. The device also supports dual sims.
As for the overall design, the device is strikingly similar to the Royole FlexPai as we’ve mentioned earlier. However, the gold outer shell and Escobar Inc. logo does help differentiate the device.
Of course, coming from a drug kingpin’s brother, the Escobar Fold 1 is advertised on the site in a rather ‘unusual’ way for smartphones. The ‘Escobar girls’ show off the foldable smartphone in lingerie. However, before you get tempted to buy the phone that seems too good to be true, we’d suggest laying off this one. Else, only consider buying the phone if you’ve got the extra dough since the too good to be true price tag might actually be what it is — ‘too good to be true’.
