Chinese telecommunication giant and smartphone maker Huawei’s sub-brand introduced the Honor View 20 a.k.a. V20 today in China. International debut is on January 22, 2019. This is Honor’s first hole in the screen smartphone. Speaking of which, the hole seats the front-facing camera in it. The Honor View 20 features a Gorilla Glass covered main 6.4in Full HD+ extra tall 19.25:9 IPS LCD display (again with a hole for the selfie camera) with a resolution of 1080 x 2310 pixels that makes up for a pixel density of 398 PPI.

The performance all you need is handled by the latest and greatest, flagship grade in-house Kirin 980 SoC coupled to a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU aided by 6GB/8GB of RAM. Internal memory is generous at 128GB on both 6GB or 8GB RAM and 256GB on the 8GB RAM (Moschino Edition) variants. With that said, the internal memory is expandable, as the device is equipped with a memory card slot (up to 256GB). Coming to biometrics, a fingerprint scanner and Honor’s flavor of front-camera based face unlock for unlocking the phone is available.

Photography is handled by a camera setup at the rear featuring a primary 48MP (f/1.8 lens) + Time of Flight (ToF) for depth perception, creating 3D avatars and images of users. A 25MP (f/2.0) (HDR) selfie camera is present upfront of the Honor View 20. The rear and front cams can shoot videos at a resolution of up to 2160p @ 30fps and 1080p @ 30fps respectively.

Battery Power and charging, connectivity and Android OS

A 4000 mAh battery is onboard to provide enough juice to the Honor View 20. A USB-C port for charging is onboard the device. Having said that the device also features fast battery charging (4.5V/5A = 22.5W).

Coming to the connectivity side of the device, it has you all covered with Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. Speaking of which, the device features Link Turbo technology that helps the device switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data seamlessly to provide the user with an uninterrupted browsing and buffer-free Youtube and video experience. Bluetooth 5.0 LE with support for A2DP and EDR, GPS for navigation and location-based services and more are onboard. Thankfully, a 3.5mm audio jack is present in the Honor View 20 for audiophiles out there.

The Honor View 20 will ship with Android 9.0 Pie based Honor Magic UI 2.0 which is Honor’s take on Android customization out of the box.

Pricing, availability, and colors

As for the pricing and availability, in China, the Honor View 20 will set you back CNY 2,999 and CNY 3,499 for the 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB models respectively. The Moschino Edition (8GB + 256GB) will cost CNY 3,999. Pre-orders have begun in China and the smartphone will be available on December 28, 2018. With that said, again, Honor will unveil the View 20 globally next year on January 22, 2019. As far as the paint jobs are concerned, it will be available in Sea Blue, Red or Magic Night Black.

The Honor View 20 employs an on-screen punch hole front-facing camera which helps Honor to get rid of the infamous notch that seems to be plaguing smartphones these days. This type of design looks neat and way less obtrusive than a notch. However, let’s not forget the fact that the device still features a chin, although here it’s slimmer.
