Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled a brand new device, the Redmi S2 in their budget Redmi series a few days ago. The aluminum dressed and iPhone X design inspired smartphone features a 5.99in HD+ 18:9 IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1440. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU along with 3 GB (32GB storage variant) or 4GB of RAM (64GB storage variant). Of course, there is a dedicated MicroSD card slot present in the device that can handle cards of size up to 256GB.

Photography is handled by a dual camera setup at the rear featuring a 12MP (f/2.2) + 5MP sensor combo assisted by a single LED flash and an AI-powered 16MP shooter up front also assisted by a single LED flash. A 3080 mAh battery is onboard the Xiaomi Redmi S2 to keep it ticking on. Coming to the connectivity side of the Xiaomi Redmi S2, it has you all covered with WI-FI 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE with A2DP, GPS and more. Oh, and by the way, the device features the good old headphone jack we all love. The Redmi S2 runs on Android 8.0 based MIUI 9 out of the box.

As for pricing, the 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB Redmi S2 will cost around $150/₹10,100 and $204/₹13,713 respectively. Color options available are Rose Gold, Champagne Gold, and Platinum Silver

Design, why are most of the OEMs impersonating the Apple iPhone X?

Design wise, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 looks identical to its bigger brother, the Mi A2 a.k.a the Mi 6X. However, there is no denying the fact that Xiaomi was only and only inspired by the “FruitPhone X” with the dead ringer being that vertical rear camera module design. Flip the Redmi S2 and thank god, it has minimal bezels top and bottom unlike the “FruitPhone X” which features the controversial notch at the top of the display.
