MIUI 9 was announced back in November 2017, soon after the release of Android 8.0 Oreo. You’d be forgiven to think that this would mean MIUI 9 would be based on Android Oreo. However, that’s now how things roll at Xiaomi. Due to the heavy skinning of Android, Xiaomi is usually several steps behind other OEMs when it comes to providing Android updates. Their solution to the problem? Push Android updates out of the picture and instead treat MIUI as an OS of its own. Therefore, instead of focusing on providing the latest Android updates, Xiaomi concentrates on providing MIUI updates to supported devices. MIUI 9.5, like each MIUI update, is adorned with a new package of stock wallpapers and several changes. Today we have them both for you here.
Amongst the most notable changes are new iPhone X like navigation gestures. A swipe up from the bottom will drop you at your home screen. Similarly, a swipe from the left or right edge will emulate the function of the back button. To get to the recents screen you’ll have to swipe up from the bottom and hold. Other than that, the MIUI gallery app now has a Favorites folder where all your favorite photos live. MIUI 9.5 also introduces a brand new Mi music player, notification shade grouping, among other new features and several bug fixes and optimizations.
