The long-awaited and highly anticipated has finally arrived! All it started with rumors followed by some leaks and then finally confirmed by Samsung itself the last week when the manufacturer published the details of it. Yes, I am talking about the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9300 which would surely have put a big smile at the pining faces of the Galaxy S2 users.
Samsung has already started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 firmware update. The Galaxy S2 users in Spain are lucky this time to get the OTA update first. It does not mean, however, that all non-Spanish SGS2 owner will not be able to taste the latest update. The released firmware is meant for unbranded phones and, therefore, it can be installed on any international Galaxy S2, irrespective of country or region.
Features of Android 4.1.2 Update:
The Android 4.1.2 update for the Galaxy S2 comes with an overload of new features and improvements as it combines the enhancements introduced to the Galaxy S3 with Android 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. If you were also expecting the Multi Window feature or Ripple effect on the lockscreen, the update will disappoint you. Here are some of the main features:
- Google Now: to access fast, press and hold the options button (left), or put a search widget on homescreen
- Notification Panel: a sleeker look now, has the capability to show notifications and preview
- Project Butter: buttery-smooth UI, performance and great stability
- Enhanced TouchWiz: has the Nature UX of the Galaxy S3
- Lockscreen: added Facebook Ticker and other customization options
- Two New Homescreen modes: Basic Mode and Easy Mode (see Settings> Homescreen)
- Blocking Mode: lets and block call and message notifications
- Some New Apps: Google+, Google Talk, Group Cast, Music Hub, Video Hub, Play Books, Play Movies
- Camera: many new features and improvements added
- New Widgets: added from Galaxy S3
- New Features: Direct Call, Smart Stay, and Pop-up Play
- Added new settings options in phone and call.
Download Android 4.1.2 Firmware for Galaxy S2:
This is unbranded firmware officially for the Galaxy S2 users in Spain, but you can install it on your Galaxy S2 model number GT-I9300. Do not try to flash it if your phone is carrier-branded or SIM-locked. The size of the firmware zip is 541.3 MB that expands to about 700 MB on being extracted.
- PDA: I9100XWLS8
- CSC: I9100FOPLS3
- Android Version: 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
- Date: December 16, 2013
- Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom
How to Install Android 4.1.2 Firmware on Galaxy S2:
The manual installation method of the official firmware on Samsung Galaxy S2 is the same that uses the Odin flasher. If you have ever installed a stock firmware on to your Galaxy S2, you must be familiar with it. But if you are new to such things, we have given some simple steps that will help you install the Android 4.1.2 firmware.
- Download the Odin firmware flasher and extract the zip on your desktop: Odin3-v3.07.zip
- Download the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware in a zip from the link above and extract it on your desktop. Inside the extracted folder, you will get a file with .tar.md5 extension which shall be used later.
- Make sure that either Kies or Samsung USB Drivers is installed on your computer.
- Open phone Settings and turn on USB Debugging from Developer Options.
- Backup your contacts, messages, apps, call log, etc.
- Now launch the Odin program. You will see a window like shown below.
- Boot your Galaxy S2 into Download Mode. If you do not know how to do it, follow these instructions: turn off the phone, press and hold the Volume Down+Home (center) keys simultaneously and then press the Power button for few seconds. Your device will ask you to press the Volume Up key to proceed, do it.
- Now it’s time to connect your Galaxy S2 to the computer using the USB cable. Wait for a few seconds till you see the ID:COM box at Odin turn light blue and “Added!” text at the message box below. This show that the phone is connected and ready to download the firmware via Odin.
- Make sure that only two options, namely “Auto Reboot” and “F Reset Time” are checked on Odin.
- Now click the “PDA” button and browse to the .tar.md5 file inside the firmware folder and select it.
- Throw a final look at the Odin and when you are satisfied that all things have been considered, click on “Start” button.
- Odin will now start flashing the firmware to your Galaxy S2. If you have grown a little nervous, do not worry. It is a natural symptom.
- Wait till the firmware is flashed and you get “PASS!” message at Odin. Your device should reboot now automatically.
- Disconnect the USB cable and get ready to embrace your Galaxy S2 with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
The first boot will take a longer time than a usual boot. You will see “Android is upgrading” message followed shortly by the lockscreen.
What to do if you get a bootloop?
Your Galaxy S2 should reboot normally but if it is stuck on the boot screen and not starting, do the following things:
- Remove the back cover of your phone and pull out the battery. Wait for 20 seconds and reinsert the battery to its place.
- Now boot your Galaxy S2 in Recovery mode: press and hold the Volume Up+Home (center) keys simultaneously and then press the Power button for a few seconds till the screen turns up and you see a black background with blue text.
- In the Recovery Mode, use the volume keys to scroll up or down and the Power key to select an option.
- Scroll down to “wipe data/factory reset” option, select it and perform the wipe.
- Then go back to the main menu and select “reboot system now”
Your phone should now reboot normally. Cheers! If you have a question or doubt related to the topic, feel free to leave us a comment.
How to Change the CSC of Galaxy S2:
Suppose you have flashed a firmware that was actually not meant for your country and you are concerned about the future Over-the-Air updates, you can change the CSC (Consumer Software Customization) code of your device as per your country to avail the official software updates. Here is how you can do it. If you do not know what the Samsung CSC of your country is, read our article.

It fails because you are trying to install a wrong firmware for another model. This guide is for GT-I9100 only.
Install from here: http://droidviews.com/2013/update-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989-with-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware/
Hello, I am using galaxy s2 GT-I9100 version 2.3.5. I guess it is a T-mobile Germany (DTM) phone but it is unlocked and uses other sim cards here in NEPAL.

2. Which firmware should i use
Most of the sites relating to this versions are in German which i cant understand….. any help would be much appreciated…
Hello, i have a epic 4G from sprint, i’m on guadalajara mexico, with IUSACELL CDMA,
this update works for SPH-D710 CDMA ??
cuz i want to have unbranded, without any thing from sprint.
Thanks 😉
Hi Daniel, I have not yet tested this. If it was a branded device with GT-I9100, it would have been a safe game. But flashing the firmware for the international version on an US 4G variant might have bizarre consequences including a soft brick.
If you dare take the risk, you can try installing it but download 2 firmwares-
1. the latest official for your country: http://droidviews.com/2013/install-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware-on-samsung-epic-4g-sph-d710/
2. One of the firmwares from above.
Then use the steps given at this guide- http://droidviews.com/2013/how-to-downgrade-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/
Many users have reported that they unlocked their phone using it. Install the unbranded firmware first. In case any unplesant situation takes place, immediately install the official 4.1.2 for Sprint.
Besides you can also use this app: http://droidviews.com/2012/unlock-your-sim-locked-samsung-galaxy-ss2s3-with-galaxsim-unlock-app/
Another way is to root your phone and install a custom ROM: http://droidviews.com/2013/want-a-fully-customizable-aosp-rom-for-your-android-try-carbon-rom/
my brother enter password more times wrong
my phone stack on galaxy s2 logo
i can;t open it 🙁
Use the Steps given under method 1 from here: http://droidviews.com/2012/how-to-recover-when-your-android-device-is-caught-in-bootloop/
i’m from egypt what’s the ver Contains arabic and english
Considering size of Samsung smartphone users in India, its a shame that Samsung decides to offer update at far end, after whole world is served. I think your site should take up this matter with Samsung, since lot of your Indian subscribers should feel the same way.
It doesn’t matter in a larger context. If you see, these firmwares are made available in phases. I remember several occasions when India was the first to get the updates. India has a large consumer base indeed, but mostly for low-mid end budget phones. Anyways, I have mailed Samsung India addressing this issue.
Which firmware is better? XWLSD or XWLSJ?
Both are the same.
Ok, I just wanted to say thank you again, I’ve rooted my device and unlocked it using the link you gave and it worked great! thanks again!
Nice! Please support us at social networks!
Hi, I’ve installed I9100XXLS8 version, and now my phone is network locked. Any advice on how to resolve this? Will installing another version do the trick? maybe Factory reset?
I’d appreciate any help. I’m from Israel BTW, and I purchased my phone here legally, so it’s not supposed to be locked.
The firmware you installed was unbranded and for unlocked GT-I9100. How did that lock your phone?
Anyways, try these: http://droidviews.com/tag/sim-unlock/
Hi, thanks for the reply. If I install a different firmware, will that might be able to resolve it? Or do I have to root my device now no matter what?
Well, I think SIM locking is at a different level than software. It lies within and you will have to unlock it separately. Firmware will not fix your issue, I am afraid. You can try it though.
Hello im also from sri Lanka & using Galaxy S2 GT i9100, running 4.0.4. Below details are specs. Hope this is a T mobile (Germany – DTM ) carrier branded unlocked version & working fine with networks here.
PDA : I9100BOLPM
PHONE : I9100BOLP7
CSC : I9100DTMLPF
I want to update it to official 4.1.2 & please advice me that will this works for my phone without facing any network lock or brick? Or do i wait for their original release?
Thank you.
As you said your phone model is GT-I9300 and it is unlocked too, you can install this firmware and it will work and will not brick you device. Do not worry about that and install the German or Italian firmware.
Thank you. I want to knw whether i can flash NEE (nordic countries) firmware for this? Or do you have any idea that which would be the most suitable firmware for Sri Lanka as far as released?
Well you can flash any European version from above, except the carrier branded ones. I have tested the Spanish and German ones.
OMG! I cant believe this. Just flashed NEE firmware as per your instructions and it worked great. Now im with JB 4.1.2. And the best thing is every data & each personalized stuff which was on phone are also as it is. I have nothing to do except using phone & feel the latest 🙂
Thanks million… TC.
Nice and cheers!
Hi one more thing.
How do i get screenshot capture on this & multi window view isn’t included to this?
To take screenshot, try this: http://droidviews.com/2013/how-to-take-screenshots-on-samsung-galaxy-grand-and-grand-duos/
Multi-window is not available for S2. But you can have with a custom ROM. I am writing a best ROMs article for the S2, just wait for a day.
Cool.. It worked. Thanks.. 🙂
Updating with these “official” ROM, will leave you disconnected with KIES. Even your computer will not recogize your phone, preventing you to transfer files, music, videos from your computer. This is becuase CSC needs to match with the region you are in. These downsides, should be mentioned in the article and the user should know what he is getting into. Changing CSC may not be always possible, because your ROM may not support multi CSC.
Is this firmware better than what is posted on
http://droidviews.com/2012/leaked-samsung-4-1-2-xxlsj-firmware-rootedgalaxy-s2/
???
That was a leaked firmware which was premature and had bugs too. This is official release. Install it.
i have samsung galaxy s2 (gt-i9100) i need to install china language how i can do it plz ???
Can I use this method to Flash jb om my note. I have stock ics 4.0.3
No, do not dare flash it. Wait for the 4.1.2 firmware to arrive.
is this stable? bug free?
There is nothing perfect in world. The ROM is stable and cool.
Hi, is it possible for me to use the China Firmware on my S2 purchased from Singapore?
Thanks in advance..
Yes, 100% Sure.
Hi, i failed to install the firmware. Wondering is there any things I need to do prior to reboot?
This is unbranded firmware officially for the Galaxy S2 users in Spain, but you can install it on your Galaxy S2 model number GT-I9300. It should be GT I9100.
Great post BTW
