During the past few months we have seen many instances where Jelly Bean firmwares for a number of Samsung devices like the Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Verizon Galaxy S3 have been leaked by Samsung insiders. Whether intentional or unintentional, these leaks have always been welcomed by the users as aย deliciousย treat. The Android 4.2.1 leaked Jelly Bean firmware a couple of days ago raised our heartbeats with new hopes. The sad thing, however is that the official update would ย arrive, as reports indicate, only after the launch of the Galaxy S4.
I have been exploring the new leak for one and half days now and have discovered many things, the good and bad ones, that I will be covering all aspects of Android 4.2.1 for S3 in ย my detailed analysis of it in the next post.
Meanwhile, if you have already installed the newly leaked firmware and wish to stay with it for some time, you must be looking for a way to root it and install the ClockworkMod Recovery on your Galaxy S3 with Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. So, here is an easy tutorial that will help you as do it. If you are an advanced user, you can download the rooting package that contains the SuperSU and CWM Recovery file ย from below and flash it using Odin. In case you are new to such things, it would be better to follow the easy guidelines and root your phone in a few simple steps.
Root and Install CWM Recovery on Galaxy S3 with Android 4.2.1:
Make sure you phone has at least 50% of battery juice left.
- Downloadย Odin3_v3.04.zipย and extract it on your Windows PC. if you have Mac, you can download Mobile Odin Pro from the market and install the rooting package using it.
- Downloadย Root-CWM-SGS3-XXUFMB3.tarย (do not extract).
- Backup your contacts, call-logs, messages, APNs, bookmarks, calendar, apps & gamesย using these apps.
- Make sure that either Kies or the Samsung USB Drivers are installed on your computer.
- Turn on USB Debugging Mode of the phone: Settings> Developer Options> USB Debugging. If you are not able to see the Developer Options under device settings, go to About, scroll to Build Number and tap it 7 ย times. Doing this will enable the developer mode.
- Turn off your Galaxy S3 and boot it into Download/Odin mode: Press the Volume Up+Home buttons together and then hold the Power button for 3 seconds. You will see a warning screen asking you to press the Volume Up key to continue. Press it to enter the Download Mode.
- Now open the Odin folder and launch Odin. Connect you phone to PC using USB cable. Wait for a few seconds till Odin detects your phone and you see ID:COM port turning to light blue and “Added!!” text below at message box. If you do not see this, check you have installed the Drivers and also that Kies is not opened during theย procedure.
- Make sure that only “Auto Reboot” and “F Reset Time” are checked.
- Okay, now click on the PDA button and select theย Root-CWM-SGS3-XXUFMB3.tarย file.
- Finally, hold you breath and hit the “Start” button on Odin. Let the installation finish.
- And when it is done, you will see “PASS!”ย messageย at ID:COM and your phone will reboot automatically.
You will see “Android is upgrading” text on your phone’s screen. When it’s over, go to App Drawer and look for an app called SuperSU. Tap on it and update the binary when prompted. You will also see a app called CWM installed on your phone.
Enjoy the rooted Android 4.2.1 on your S3. Cheers!
can i install on s3 jelly bean 4.2.1 with official
Why do you want to a leaked firmware over official one?
my samsung galaxy chat gt- b5330 is in root is it update version 4.2.1
I tried rooting my S3 I9300 running on Jelly Bean 4.3 using this tutorial but it didn’t work. I tried CF-Auto_Root and it didn’t work either. After the installation, SuperSU and CWM get installed on my phone, but when i open SuperSU it gives me this message : ” There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! if you just upgraded to Android 4.3, You need to manually re-root. Consult the relevant forums for your device! “. I tried re-rooting it many times. I tried also to re-install the ROM and root again, same problem! I hope you can help.
Thanks!
Can this be done for 4.3?
Yes, try CF-Auto-Root from above.
i accidentally installed this on my 4.1.2…now my baseband and IMEI has disapeared….HELP
“Installed this” means= the firmware or root file?
Anyways, install the previous Firmware/ROM.
What if my phone is already rooted? Do i need to do these steps again to get 4.2.1 firmware?
