Root-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-10.1

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is a flagship tablet from the world’s biggest phone manufacturer Samsung. This tablet device is available in four variants depending on network connectivity features. Thus we have the Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000 (3G+WiFi), GT-N8010 (WiFi), GT-N8013 (WiFi 32 GB), and GT-N8020 (LTE+WiFi). The device was released in August 2012 with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box which has now been updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy Note 10.1, a tablet device with the advanced S Pen stylus is a complete package of utility, creativity and performance. However, if you wish to extend its capabilities by rooting it and installing the ClockworkMod Recovery, we have come with an easy tutorial to help you do this safely. Having rooted your Note 10.1, you will be able to install a variety of useful apps on your device and the ClockworkMod Recovery will unleash you from the bonds of remaining stuck to the stock firmware forever by letting you choose  your favorite ROM and install it.

Disclaimer:

The following guide is meant only for the four variants of the Galaxy Note 10.1 mentioned above. Do not  dare try it with any other device or you might brick it. The procedure given below is described below is considered risky. You are advised therefore not to proceed unless you are fully aware what rooting is and if you should root your device or not. Rooting your Galaxy Note 10.1 will void its warranty but you can reclaim it later by installing the stock firmware.

Works only on Galaxy Note 10.1 on Jelly Bean!

  9. When the installation is finished, your Galaxy Note 10.1 will reboot automatically.

Your device should now be rooted but the ClockworkMod Recovery still needs to be installed on it. To confirm if the rooting was successful or not, download a free app called Root Checker and install and run it.

  7. When the installation is finished, your Galaxy Note 10.1 will reboot automatically.

Now you should have ClockworkMod Recovery installed on you Galaxy Note 10.1. If you do not wish to flash the CF-ROOT package from above and have installed CWM Recovery, you can also root your Note 10.1 by installing the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.00.zip file via CWM recovery.

How to Boot Note 10.1 into Recovery Mode:

Now that CWM Recovery is installed on your device, you must also know how you can boot your Note 10.1 into stock Recovery or CWM Recovery mode. This is how you can do it. Press and hold Volume Down + Power keys simultaneously till the screen turns up and Samsung logo with device model name blinks for two times. Then release the power key but keep the Volume Down key pressed till you see 2 icons. Use Volume down key to navigate between the icons, highlight the left icon and press Volume Up to select it. In the recovery mode use the volume keys to scroll the list or highlight an option and the Power key to select it.

Do not forget to share with us how it went for you and do leave a comment if you have a problem with the procedure. We shall be more than happy to help you out.

Once the Odin shows “Pass”, you can disconnect the device and reboot it. The process takes at most 10 minutes.
As for the screen on device, two things are expected; either it will stay the same throughout or it will reboot itself. But none matters.
What matters is the “Pass” message on Odin window, then you can simply disconnect and reboot.

It is now gone thru NAND write start message, no change on tablet screen though. Should it be this slow?

  • Travis

I did. Same result… the tablet went into downlaod mode just fine, shows the downloading.. screen still. the blue bar unde the Android is full (100% I assume). Did I do something incorrectly?

  • http://droidviews.com/ Dhananjay Bhardwaj

close the odin window and start the process again.

  • Travis

The last entry in the ODIN message box is “Setup Connection..” still sitting, HD activity light flashed very infrequently.

  • http://droidviews.com/ Dhananjay Bhardwaj

Do not touch the device. Start the program from Step #5 again.

  • Travis

How long should my GT-N8010 stay on the “Downloading… Do not turn off target!!” screen? Been sitting idle for 10+ minutes, laptop HD does not appear to be sending any data to the unit.

  • Worlie

    thx for the Help!

    Hi,
The root process went well. However I was unable to boot into CWM recovery mode after the install. Everything appears to have passed. I have root access on the device.
When I hold the power and vol down buttons, I only get the programming screen. There is no indication CWM installed. Any ideas? Thanks for the assistance.

Did you install the correct firmware. If yes, try a “wipe data factory reset” from stock recovery. I once had this issue with my Note 2, and it was fixed this way.

  • Bill dornan

I had my GT-N8020 rooted and cwm installed and decided to return to stock as none of the sync software worked. Now ,no matter what I do I cannot get my 4G or 3G network to work. I reinstalled stock rom and stock recovery but still I only have wifi.

    Nice to here that.

  • Guido

Thnx, everything works now! As it turns out, it’s CWM V6.0.1.1.

  • http://droidviews.com/ DroidViews

In fact, you do not have CWM installed yet. Sorry, I forgot to add the CWM installation steps. The post has been updated. Install CWM and try again. :)

  • Guido

I booted my device into recovery mode using the instructions above. Top rows states: Android system recovery . So I guess I have CWM 3.x+ installed. This is what I configured in the Rom Manager App. Now, when I try to make a backup of my current ROM (4.0.4 stock) using ROM Manager, it boots into recovery mode having only the standard 5 options reboot, apply update, wipe, wipe, apply update). But no backup is made…. I’m lost.

    Hi
You can find it yourself. Boot your device into recovery (method in the tutorial above) and you can see the version on the top of the screen. You can also enter the recovery mode from within the ROM Manager itself too. Open the app and select “Reboot into Recovery”.

  • Guido

I just rooted my GT-N8010 (Android 4.0.4) according instructions. Everything seems to work fine. Now, I’ve installed CWM Rom manager App. It asks which version of CWM is installed. Can you please tell me which version is installed by using the above package? Thnx in advance.

  • http://droidviews.com/ DroidViews

Rooting takes only the warranty (that can be restored later) and gives you a lot. It will not affect any feature of your device.

  • Guido

    Ok, thnx.
I have a GT-N8010. Will it in any way affect the multiwindow and the S-pen functionality? Because that’s the reason I bought this tab in the first place.

  • http://droidviews.com/ DroidViews

Yes, it does. I have rooted my Note 10.1 N8000.

  • Guido

does this also work after having upgraded to JB 4.1.2?
