Late yesterday through MIUIAndroid’s Twitter, a news popped up! And probably the best news for the MIUI lovers owning the latest Nexus devices; the Nexus 4 & the Galaxy Nexus. After a lot of closed-beta testing by the MIUI Beta Team and enormous handwork of Jonas Salo, MIUI has now finally released the Official ROM for the two latest Nexus Phone flagships, though both are still in early-Betas based on JellyBean 4.2.2. So, if you’re the owner of the same then this news has already made your day! Go and jump off the couch now. The version to follow on the Nexus device releases is MIUI 3.5.31.
Introduction to MIUI
In case you’re a newbie to both MIUI and Android, then you must read this little info mentioned below.
MIUI (pronounced as “Me You I”) is one of the best aftermarket firmwares available for Android, developed and maintained by Xiaomi Tech. It is based on Android Open Source Project but is yet itself closed-source. Offering heavy and amazing User Interface. Some interesting features of MIUI ROM are Fully customizable Notification Toggles, Theme support, MIUI Apps: Music, Gallery, Camera, Settings, Compass and much more. The latest MIUI releases are tagged version 5 (MIUI v5) based on Android JellyBean.
The officially supported devices are listed as follows:
- Nexus 4 (LG)
- MI-2/MI-2S
- HTC One X
- SGS I9100
- SGS I9300
- Google Galaxy Nexus
- Galaxy Note 2
- MI-2A
- MI-One/MI-One-S/Plus

Warning!
- This post and its instructions are meant only and only for the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus. Do not attempt to try this on other devices.
- Read and understand the Instructions very carefully before proceeding any further.

Prerequisites
- Unlocked bootloader & ClockworkMod Installed (Follow Nexus 4 Guide or Galaxy Nexus Guide if you haven’t yet)
- At least 60% battery to avoid any uncertain shutdowns
- Android SDK Installed
- USB Drivers Installed
- Enable USB Debugging
- Backup your device’s storage, Messages, contacts etc manually.
Installation on Nexus 4 (LG)
- Download the latest package from the release thread here
- Download the 4.2.x GApps package: miuiandroid_gapps-4.2.2-small_signed.zip]
- Connect the device to the PC via USB cable.
- Copy the download files to the device storage.
- Open Command Prompt window/Terminal window and type in the following command:
adb reboot recovery - Your device will boot itself in the CWM Recovery mode.
- Tap on “Factory data reset” and select “Yes“.
- Go to “mounts and storage“. And format /boot, /system and /data.
- Go to “install zip from sdcard” > “choose zip from sdcard” and select the ROM zip package (miuiandroid_mako_jb-3.x.xx.zip). When prompted, tap on “Yes” to start the flashing process.
- Tap on “Reboot system now“
- When the device has rebooted successfully, finish the initial setup.
- When the homescreen comes up, follow step #3 and 4 again to boot into recovery mode.
- Flash the GApps package (miuiandroid_gapps-4.2.2-small_signed.zip) using the step #7.
- Tap on “Reboot system now” again to boot the device finally into the latest MIUI V5 ROM.
Installation on Google Galaxy Nexus
- Download the latest package from the release thread
- Download the 4.2.x GApps package: miuiandroid_gapps-4.2.2-small_signed.zip]
- Connect the device to the PC via USB cable.
- Copy the download files to the device storage.
- Open Command Prompt window/Terminal window and type in the following command:

Few Notes
- Above in the instructions, “x.xx” in “miuiandroid_mako_jb-3.x.xx.zip” & “miuiandroid_maguro_jb-3.x.xx.zip” represents the version number. So new build will have its unique version.
- Rebooting between flashing the ROM and GApps package is very necessary. If not done, you will experience the Home button not working.
- MIUI V5 Email App flash-able zip: MiuiV5Email.zip
- Avoid restoring Apps or App Data, it may cause invincible bugs.
- Please ensure that your are using CWM Recovery before flashing miui v5 3.5.31 as TWRP recovery will not work.
Again, this is still an early-beta, so bugs are expected. You can find the apt multi-language package here. If you experience any bug, report it here, which will help the developers fix it.

Tried on my Nexus 4 WIFI is not working, It couldn’t even get the MAC address ? Otherwise its really an awesome. You will not feel like that you are using and Android until you swipe up the back button. 🙂
Hi, I use a Galaxy Nexus GSM, but it says I’ve put in an incorrect PIN code…
Make sure to disable PIN on the ROM prior to installing this ROM.
Okay, and what if I already flashed the ROM :D?
I’m now stuck with a non-working rom and I can’t acces my SD card to flash an earlier build to disable PIN…
Are you getting any PIN authentication on your installed custom recovery too?
flash any earlier custom rom and disable PIN. Later, you can finally install this ROM 🙂
followed instructions exactly but wi-fi does not work and I am not running this 100% using my data plan. hopefully some day there will be a working ROM for Nexus CDMA but as of now. No go.
Which Nexus device are you using?
google galaxy nexus cdma. downloaded that version 3.6.7 and gapps. I use a script to format /system, /data and factory reset etc, also tried manually although /boot isn’t one of the choices I have in CWM recovery. I have done this twice and the rom gets stuck trying to start wi-fi and it never shows any wi-fi connections available.
For in my knowledge, this is meant for GSM Galaxy Nexus. Yet, you have already flashed and it is working for you, which is indeed good.

Yes, 4.2.2. Issues are expected because its the first Beta. If you want a more stable release than this one, wait for upcoming Friday, then hit the links. You’ll find a new release with some stability. Not to say, even with a few bugs, this ROM is amazing 🙂
