Having spent a handsome amount of money on a smartphone its our right to expect good sound quality from our device. I have been a Samsung Galaxy fan for a long time but I was always coveted by the eulogies sung in the praise of Beats Audio engine found in some HTC smartphones. While buying my second HTC device the Beats factor kept always hovering over my head.
However, when I plugged the earphones in my HTC One with “great expectations” still on, I must honestly confess that the audio quality did not impress me. Anyway, I thought may be it needed a little configuration in the equalizer to tune up the audio but I was shocked to learn that my new device did not have even an equalizer to personalize the audio output. All I could do was to turn Beats Audio on or Off!
They say Android has a solution for everything, especially if you have a rooted device and so I started looking for a workaround for better audio quality on HTC One and finally I stumbled upon a great mod made by ZeroInfinity from XDA. This audio mod called PureXAudio can significantly enhance the system audio quality of you HTC One with greater clarity and awesome bass and treble effects.
The PureXAudio mod applies the sound effects system-wide and so you’ll not see any equalizer app that you need to turn on. It has a preset audio configuration that overrules the default effects on HTC One. Besides, making the audio quality superior, the mod also makes the volume a little louder than the default value.
Requirements:
An HTC One with root privileges and a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP). If you do not have a rooted device yet, we have a detailed guide on the topic. Just click the link below to head over to the HTC One rooting tutorial:
How to Root HTC One and Install CWM/TWRP Recovery on It
Compatibility:
The PureXAudio effects work on all HTC One devices with stock rooted ROM or Sense 5 based custom ROMs. I have tested in on AndroidRevolution HD and TrickDroid.
Download:
Download the custom recovery flashable zip from below. Do not extract it and copy to your device.
PureXAudio_M7_ZeroInfinity_v4.0.zip
How to Install:
- Download and copy the “PureXAudio_M7_ZeroInfinity_v4.0.zip” file on your phone.
- Reboot the device into CWM or TWRP Recovery mode.
- Backup your current ROM first so that you might be able to revert back to original audio in case you do not like the new effects.
- Go to “install zip from sdcard” (in CWM) or “Install” (in TWRP) option and install the zip file.
- Finally, reboot the device.
When your device boots up, connect the earphone to it and play some music. You should now feel a significant improvement in the audio quality of your HTC One. Enjoy!

Listening to my new HTC one with my monster turbine gold earphones I was blown away by the sound quality…far better than my ipod touch 5th gen (with a BBE enhancements app), I don’t think I have ever heard anything so clear and well defined. The thing is, people listening to poor sound quality have come to expect everything to be drenched in overstated bass when the sound I hear on my HTC one is clinical, pure sound and the bass is authentic and honest. I think the ‘beats’ sound as a whole is really geared towards dance/electronic music as are their headphone range and listening to some dubstep was an exciting experience and I was totally captivated, carrying on listening to the early hours. To be honest my earphones cost me £179 so you would expect (hope?) a superior sound but they need the sound quality to really bring out their potential and my HTC one provides that. Infact I might even sell my ipod touch now as I just cant go back to it.
I like my HTC One’s audio more with the Sony Honami Walkman installed. Try it: http://droidviews.com/xperia-honami-i1z-ultra-media-apps-album-movies-walkman/
